The first pubertal milestone in girls is often the growth of the breasts (thelarche), which is swiftly followed by the formation of pubic and axillary hair, and then the first menstrual cycle (menarche), which typically takes place 2 to 3 years following thelarche.The development of the testicles is frequently the first pubertal milestone in boys, followed by the expansion of the penile and the advent of pubic and axillary hair.Adrenarche refers to the emergence of pubic and axillary hair in both sexes. 10% of children may experience adrenaline before gonadotropin release (premature adrenarche). Although the indications of the gonadarche and the adrenarche may overlap, they are controlled separately. Precocious puberty has typically been defined as beginning before age 8 for girls and age 9 for boys. However, the existing definition relies on valid demographic standards for the beginning of puberty (i.e., the occurrence of pubertal milestones); these historical standards are currently being reevaluated because puberty is starting earlier, particularly in females. Breast development is happening earlier and earlier in life. A higher body mass index (> 85th percentile) is connected with an earlier thelarche, echoing the obesity epidemic.
